LOVE, THE PASSIONATE PAINKILLER

Kissing, via Wikipedia Commons

Problem with these people doing all this "research" on the simple word love is they are overcomplicating it. Not only that but they narrow love down to the "relationship" love.

There is a whole different spectrum of love. Loving family members, loving friends, animals, plants and even to the simple joys that love brings when you are reading a book, drawing, music etc.

Whenever love gets complicated its only reflecting how complicated the person really is.

Instead of researching it, I have to say to these people, "Why don't you go and try it out yourself instead of resorting to a computer or science to figure out a human emotion. It might actually do you some good." I don't need science or a computer to tell me how wonderful true love truly feels.

I wonder if this will help all those who feel the need to ingest drugs realise that when healthy people talk about being "high on life", it's real.

Abraham Maslow described this when he wrote about peak experiences, and if you google "mysticism" you will find that human beings have experienced the mysterious power of Love in the Universe in every culture in every era.

It's not about loving another person at all, it's about the power of Love, full stop.

If you love life and love being alive the euphoria is on tap. Unfortunately childhood environment and current life circumstances blind many to this reality and they turn to damaging substitutes (like cocaine, weed, unhealthy lovers, promiscuity) in a vain and blinded search for what they unconsciously feel is missing.

We live in barbaric times; most of us know so little about what it is to be human, but as a species, we DO know some things. Religions try to express the ineffable, people like Freud and Jung discovered and began to map the human heart, now neuroscience is discovering the mechanics of the lived experience; Love is another name for the spirit that animates all life and binds everything in the Universe together.

All you need is Love....

....all together now.....

Understanding any element of how our brain and nervous system functions can lead to surprising discoveries. In this instance if we understand how love reduces pain it may be possible to improve pain killers by capitalizing on a similar effect.

Science doesn't always work on clear lines of thought, that is what makes it so interesting. The glue used to hold braces on was developed because a marine biologist investigated how sea anemones stick to rocks.

Open your mind a little, this kind of study is far more worthwhile than the billions of dollars spend on ridiculous commercials each year.

LAPTOP TOASTED LEG SYNDROME NOTED

Laptop Burn, Sabino, via Tumblr

This is a very real and serious medical condition caused by overexposure to a heat source. The real medical term for it is Erythema Ab Igne. Please look it up and educate yourselves before joking about a serious health risk.

I happen to have an extremely painful and incurable medical condition. Many of us with this condition find heating pads can give us tremendous pain relief. We do have to be very careful in our use of heat, however, because overuse leads to Erythema Ab Igne. It has happened to me. It is very serious because it causes skin damage and can lead to skin cancer. This report implies EAI is a rare condition. It is not rare at all and, in fact, is becoming more common.

Sounds exactly the same as the mottled leg condition I remember seeing as a child in many old ladies who had a habit of sitting too close to their coal fire..

<>

The term "Laptop" is an abused description touted by sales & marketing. Just bout every laptop I have ever seen has cooling vents built into the underside, rear & sides where cool air is pulled in & hot air is expelled.

These machines, although portable are designed to be used on a table top which does not restrict these vents.

When I had a computer retail & repair business I was always looked at dumbstruck when I explained this simple fact....if you don't believe me take a look for yourself under your computer & you will see these slats. Very obviously, a vent will not function properly if you block it....DUH! As the processing power of computers goes up, the heat the CPU produces will also go up...it is simple physics.

Antec notebook cooler

My current notebook was specialty ordered, a state-of-the-art gaming machine. Cramming powerhouse components into a laptop frame generates a ton of heat, and the oversized vents prove it. Just for fun, I placed a plastic container next to the vent, overclocked the CPU and stressed the GPU with a graphics intense program. After about 5 minutes, the plastic container began to melt. Apparently internal components can get as hot as 90C under heavy loads.

That's why I keep it on a cooler when doing anything that requires a lot of computing power. Fortunately, there's very few programs that can actually cause a heavy load on a quad-core laptop.
